These steps are for the Mail app on recent macOS. Menu names can shift slightly between versions; the server values stay the same.
Use IMAP so mail stays in sync between your Mac, phone and Roundcube webmail.
What you need
- Full email address (for example
[email protected]) - Mailbox password
- Server:
mail.yourdomain.com(replace with your domain)
cPanel → Email Accounts → Connect Devices shows the exact values for that mailbox if auto-setup struggles.
Server settings
| Setting | Value |
|---|---|
| Account type | IMAP (recommended) |
| Incoming mail server | mail.yourdomain.com — port 993, SSL/TLS |
| Outgoing mail server (SMTP) | mail.yourdomain.com — port 465, SSL/TLS |
| Username | Full email address |
| Password | Mailbox password |
| SMTP authentication | Required — same username and password as incoming |
POP (optional): incoming port 995 with SSL/TLS, same hostname and SMTP. Prefer IMAP unless you have a reason for POP.
Add the account
- Open Mail. If needed: Mail → Add Account.
- Choose Other Mail Account… → Continue.
- Enter your name, full email address and password → Sign In.
- If Mail cannot verify automatically, enter manually:
- Account Type: IMAP
- Incoming Mail Server:
mail.yourdomain.com - Outgoing Mail Server:
mail.yourdomain.com - User Name: full email address
- Sign in, keep Mail selected, and finish.
Confirm ports and security
- Mail → Settings (or Preferences) → Accounts.
- Select the account → Server Settings.
- Incoming (IMAP): untick “Automatically manage connection settings” if needed; port 993, Use TLS/SSL on.
- Outgoing (SMTP): port 465, Use TLS/SSL on, Authentication Password.
- Save when asked.
Test
Send to yourself and to an outside address, then reply from outside so both directions are confirmed.
If it does not work
- Username must be the full email address on both incoming and outgoing.
- Sending fails: confirm SMTP auth and port 465 + SSL/TLS.
- Certificate warning: check
mail.yourdomain.comspelling. If it still warns, open a ticket rather than ignoring it.
Ticket: clients.cidhosting.net/submitticket.php — email address (never the password) and a screenshot help most.
