How to Connect to an FTP Account

Connect to your hosting account with an FTP app such as FileZilla to upload or download website files.

Before you connect

  • Have an FTP login ready (see How to Create an FTP Account in cPanel), or use your cPanel username if that is how you usually connect.
  • Know which folder you need — the main website is public_html.

Connect with FileZilla

  1. Open FileZilla → File → Site Manager → New Site.
  2. Host: yourdomain.com; Protocol: FTP — Require explicit FTP over TLS; Port: 21.
  3. Enter the FTP username and password → Connect.
  4. If you see an unknown-certificate notice the first time, check the details look like your hosting provider. Unsure? Open a ticket before accepting.
  5. Drag files from your computer (left) into public_html (right).

Tip: See also How to Upload Your Website (File Manager or FTP) for File Manager and zip-upload tips.
